Chris Bellinger is a freelance TV Producer and previous head of children’s entertainment at the BBC. Here he shares some of his images taken along London’s South Bank.
London is an extraordinary city for the photographer. The variety of subject matter is just amazing.
When I’m out and about I normally carry a Nikon DSLR (D300 or D80) with me, usually attached to a wrist strap. It’s a bit on the heavy side but it seems to work. I like to try and keep people in the frame even if only to give a sense of scale and bring a bit of life to the shot. One of the great things about taking pictures in London is that virtually every other person on the street has a camera or camera-phone and so it’s that much easier to blend in. People are used to being “in shot”.
The South Bank is a great location. Lots happening, people are relaxed and there’s such a variety of interesting and iconic views over the Thames. Try the Oxo Tower. Great viewing platforms and free entry. The Royal Festival Hall has a 5th floor balcony that’s open to the public too. Great for “top shots”.
